Mica Products from XSEL Technologies

Mica products from XSEL Technologies deliver superior performance and value. Foundries that use mica slip planes and mica ceramic slip planes can save up to 35% on furnace maintenance costs.

Mica Slip Planes

Mica slip planes from XSEL Technologies are made from phlogopite mica, silicone binder, and reinforced fiberglass cloth. They separate the refractory lining from the coil and provide insulation during the induction melt process.

Mica Slip Plane Features

Lighting bolt illustrates the electrical insulating power of a mica slip plane.

Electrical Insulation

Mica slip planes are not electrically conductive. Your furnaces are more efficient.

Converging arrows demonstrate the heat retentive properties of a mica slip plane.

Heat Retention

Mica is an excellent heat conductor, delivering efficient slip plane performance.

Moisture beading off of a wall shows a mica slip plane acting as a vapor barrier.

Vapor Barrier

Mica slip planes are non-porous. They provide superior protection against damaging vapors.

Shield demonstrates the protection that a mica slip plane provides to brick and grout.

Grout and Brick Protection

Mica slip planes won't fuse to grout and brick. That means less damage and easy removal.

Mica Ceramic Slip Planes

Made of phlogopite mica, ceramic fiber, and a heat resistant silicone binder, mica ceramic slip planes from XSEL Technologies separate the refractory lining from the coil in induction furnaces and provide insulation to the coil.

Mica Ceramic Slip Plane Features

A meter shows low thermal conductivity delivered by a mica ceramic slip plane.

Low Thermal Conductivity

Mica ceramic slip planes deliver low thermal conductivity, increasing equipment lifetimes.

Heat is retained by the insulating power of a mica ceramic slip plane.

Resists Heat Loss

Heat loss is limited by mica ceramic slip planes making furnaces more efficient.

Coils are insulated y a mica ceramic slip plane.

Insulates Coil and Crucible

The ceramic slide fo the slip plane delivers insulation to the coil and crucible.

A cloud of carbon gas is blocked by a mica slip plane.

Protects Against Carbon Gas

Mica ceramic slip planes provide increased protection against harmful carbon gasses.

How Mica Slip Planes Work

The mica side of the mica slip plane is placed against the brick/grout, while the ceramic side delivers excellent heat retention performance. Mica ceramic slip planes are easily cut to size; to be pressed against brick and grout with RTV silicone for adhesion of slip plane.
